The Bruins agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with defenseman Victor Söderström, the club announced Saturday. Boston acquired the rights to Söderström on Friday from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a 2025 seventh-round draft pick and prospect Ryan Mast, and quickly turned those rights into a contract for the 2025-26 season.
The 24-year-old Swedish defenseman was originally selected with the 11th overall pick of the 2019 NHL Draft by the Arizona Coyotes and spent the first four seasons of his career toggling between the Coyotes and AHL Tucson Roadrunners. Söderström opted to play in Sweden after the Coyotes packed up shop and moved to Utah for the 2024-25 season.
Söderström scored one goal and notched 10 assists across 53 games for Arizona. He amassed 16 goals and 82 points in 170 AHL games across four seasons.
In 49 games for Brynas IF in Sweden's top pro league, Söderström posted nine goals and 37 points. He also won the Börje Salming Trophy as the league's top defenseman, along with a plus-28 rating, which was best in the SHL.
Mast appeared in 37 games with the Providence Bruins during the 2024-25 season, tallying five assists. Boston selected him in the sixth round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
