Everything You Need To Know About PWHL's Expansion Draft
Draft begins at 8:30 p.m. ET on June 9
The PWHL Seattle and Vancouver franchises will continue to build their inaugural season rosters, with each team selecting seven players to fill a 12-player roster.
Seattle and Vancouver have already signed five players each during the PWHL’s Exclusive Signing Window last week.
Vancouver added defenders Claire Thompson and Sophie Jaques, forwards Sarah Nurse and Jenn Gardiner, and goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer. Seattle signed forwards Hilary Knight, Alex Carpenter and Danielle Serdachny, defender Cayla Barnes, and goaltender Corinne Schroeder.
Each of the original six franchises could protect three players from selection in the Exclusive Signing Window and the Expansion Draft. After they lost two, they had the opportunity to add a fourth player. Players eligible to be protected must either be under contract for the 2025–26 season or the team must hold their playing rights through the 2025–26 season.
Of the 14 selections set to take place Monday night, the Boston Fleet and Toronto Sceptres will each lose three players since only one was selected during the signing window, while the Minnesota Frost, Ottawa Charge, Montreal Victoire, and New York Sirens will each lose two additional players.
